Spotlight hours are, for me, mostly fun because they give me an opportunity to consider the lesser-known critters. Community Days get the headliners: the starters, the big, splashy three-tiered evolutions, even odd little favorites like Weedle and Porygon. Spotlight hours let us spend an hour with Spearow, and Spearow needs a little bit of love, too. Hereâs what to know.
Start/End Time: Spearow spotlight hour will take place from 6:00-7:00 PM local time on September 22, 2020.
Bonuses: In addition to mad Spearow Spawns, youâll get twice the XP for evolving Pokémon. Popping a lucky egg during these times was one of my best sources of XP before I reached the vaunted level 40, so nobody would blame you if you spent this whole time evolving and didnât catch a single Spearow.
The Pokémon: While I remember this thing being exclusive to Pokémon Red for some reason, a quick Googling confirms that it was actually available in all games, so who knows what Iâm remembering. But itâs a sort of a pair to the more common Pidgey from those early generations, with a bit more of an aggressive silhouette and only one evolution in the form of Fearow.
It is also one of those Pokémon that falls resolutely into the âjust sort of an animalâ category. Though Fearow becomes just a tiny bit more fanciful with the long neck that seems more suited to scavenging than anything else, Spearow is really just sort of a bird.
Shiny: Shiny Spearow has a sort of gold color to it, but unfortunately it wonât be available in this spotlight hour. Shiny Spearow has not yet been released into Pokémon GO, and Niantic has held spotlight hours for shiny-less Pokémon before.
And thatâs it. Again, if youâre under level 40, consider just popping some eggs, throwing something mindless on TV and spending the hour in the strangely meditative state of evolution bombing. Otherwise, happy hunting.
