Marvel’s finest superheroes, from Iron Man to Wolverine, have landed in ‘Fortnite’ for Season 4 and … [+] the Nexus War.

Fortnite is going full superhero for Chapter 2, Season 4. This is really unlike any previous season, with the entire story and Battle Pass devoted to Marvel characters like Iron Man, Thor, Storm and Wolverine.

In the launch trailer, we see several of these superheroes snatched up by Sif’s bifrost magic and teleported across space and time to the Fortnite island. Once they arrive—much to the shock and surprise of Jonesy, Raven and the rest of Fortnite’s regular denizens—things almost take a violent turn. Wolverine bares his claws; Peely whips out his banana claws. Storm floats up into the air, ready to rain down her devastating weather magic—when Thor intervenes.

He points to the heavens and we see what appears to be yet another comet plummeting toward the island. But this is no comet. It’s Galactus, devourer of worlds, rocketing toward our heroes.

So this could either be a really great season or a total flop and I’m still just not sure to be honest. It’s fun to have crossovers like this—certainly plenty of Marvel and DC characters have made their way into the game (along with Stranger Things, Star Wars and various other properties) but there’s a part of me that preferred it when Fortnite had its own lore, its own story and heroes, its own weird, hard-to-follow narrative. Why not have some new evil intergalactic demigod coming to destroy the island? Have the characters we already know team up with some new Fortnite heroes to save the day.

Oh well. I do like that these are all comic book (rather than movie) versions of Marvel’s heroes. It’ll be interesting to see which one is on which tier. You should watch the Season 4 Battle Pass trailer next because it looks like each of these superheroes will have special powers, and I’m not really sure what that means for game balance going forward. More on that in the other post.

Season 4 kicks off as soon as downtime is over. As always, we plan to cover every last bit of it.
