Nothing says ‘home for the holidays’ quite like the latest Call of Duty release and brand new gaming hardware.

Last month, Mountain Dew teamed up with PUBG Mobile in a clever cross-promotion that saw soda vending machines appearing within a particular map. Today, PepsiCo has announced a similar partnership with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War that will, according to the official press release, “bring retro [Mountain Dew] cans and Doritos posters and billboards into campaign mode to set the stage of this time for fans”.

The snack promotion doesn’t just consist of in-game advertising aesthetics, though. Starting in a few days, October 19, 2020, and running through January 31, 2021, eager Black Ops Cold War players can grab codes from specially marked packages of MTN DEW, MTN DEW Zero Sugar, Diet MTN DEW or Doritos and enter to win various prizes.

Rewards consist of goodies like gaming swag, in-game calling cards, a timed exclusive weapon charm, daily chances for 2XP for a year as well as the ever-trusty instant 2XP.

If energy-style drinks are more your jam, you can purchase select MTN DEW Game Fuel cans and “unlock a unique Game Fuel character skin” to impress your buddies (and enemies too, probably). Most interestingly, though, is that if you buy eligible Mountain Dew or Game Fuel products at Walmart, or via designated fountain cups at Speedway convenience stores, you can enter to win a PlayStation 5 console.

It also looks like Doritos is using the opportunity to promote its newest flavor, Twisted Lime. The tangy variety promises a decent punch and will be available in Call of Duty-themed packaging “for a limited time”.

I’m sure Call of Duty diehards will get a kick out of the in-game promotions, assorted swag and digital prizes, but let’s be real: The average gamer, in this crazy year of 2020, is going to grab some Mountain Dew at Wally World to try and win a coveted PS5.

Despite scant pre-order restocks, Sony’s upcoming system remains difficult to secure for the quickly approaching November launch—and perhaps beyond. So it’s no doubt that contests such as this are likely to garner serious attention from increasingly desperate gamers (and parents hoping to stock up for Christmas)

Burger King just launched a similar promotion, in which they’re giving away 1,000 PS5 consoles, as well as games like Demon’s Souls and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, through October 22. If you haven’t nabbed a pre-order yet, it might be best you get to playing.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to release globally on November 13 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One and PC.
